Women’s Tennis Lands Four on All-UAA Team


St. Louis, Mo., May 13, 2019 — No. 18-ranked Washington University in St. Louis had four student-athletes named to the 2019 All-University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Tennis Team, as announced Monday by the conference office.

Freshman Divya Sharma picked up second-team honors at No. 2 singles, while sophomores Ashley Lessen and Laurel Wanger earned second-team honors at No. 2 doubles. Senior Brigitte Hodge rounded out the honorees by earning honorable-mention accolades at No. 3 singles.

Sharma had a tremendous rookie campaign recording a 17-9 mark in singles, including a 9-7 mark while playing No. 2 singles. She had a nine-match winning streak from Sept. 21-Feb. 23, and was named the UAA Athlete of the Week on March 25 and April 22. Sharma was 23-11 in her rookie campaign.

Lessen and Wanger posted a 6-4 record playing No. 2 doubles in 2018-19. The duo was 2-1 at the UAA Championship, and had wins against No. 34 Case Western Reserve and No. 21 New York University in the back draw. Lessen was 14-17 this season, while Wanger had a 22-26 overall record.

Hodge, a two-time honorable-mention all-UAA honoree, recorded a 15-8 record in singles. She was 9-3 at No. 3 singles, and also had a 1-0 mark while filling in at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Hodge won seven of her last nine singles matches and finished the year with a 17-12 overall record. She had a 65-36 mark (51-29 in singles) in her four-year career.

WashU posted a 12-12 overall record and placed sixth in the conference.
