St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 18, 2019 – The Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team begins the 2019 season ranked No. 13 in the Oracle Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Rankings, as announced Friday by the Association.
Defending national champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges opens the season as the top-ranked team in Division III. Emory University (No. 2) Amherst College (No. 3), Williams College (No. 4) and Middlebury College (No. 5) make up the top five.
The University Athletic Association (UAA) has seven teams ranked in the top-20: Emory (No. 2), Chicago (No. 10), Carnegie Mellon (No. 11), WashU (No. 13), Case Western Reserve University (No. 15), Brandeis University (No. 19) and New York University (No. 20).
Head coach Kelly Stahlhuth is in her 14th season on the Danforth Campus and has a career record of 199-100 (.666). Stahlhuth guided WashU to a 13-8 mark a year ago, and an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
WashU returns 12 letterwinners from a year ago, and has added four freshmen to the roster.
WashU opens the spring season on Sunday, Feb. 10, at DePauw University. The Bears are scheduled to have 11 matches against teams ranked in the top-40.
