St. Louis, Mo., November 5, 2013 – Sophomore goalkeeper Amy French of the No. 1-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team has been named the Disney Soccer/National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III National Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the organization.
French recorded three shutouts on the road to earn University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week recognition for the third time this season. She made three saves in a 4-0 win at Millikin University Tuesday, and followed that with four saves in a 3-0 win at Brandeis University Friday. French preserved the Bears' 13th shutout of the season with three saves in a 3-0 win at New York University Sunday, sealing the Bears' second UAA Championship in a row and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
French has a 15-1 record with nine shutouts and a 0.27 goals against average in 16 starts in goal this season for the Bears. She leads the UAA and ranks second in NCAA Division III in save percentage (0.930) and fourth in goals against average (0.267).
The Disney Soccer/NSCAA Players of the Week are announced every Tuesday throughout the fall college season during the College Highlights and Rankings Show on NSCAATV.com. The program was expanded to include a men's and women's winner from all three NCAA divisions in 2013.
