Marshall, Mich., August 31, 2013 – The Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team sits in first place out of eight teams after shooting a 308 on day one of the Olivet College Labor Day Tee-Off Saturday afternoon in Marshall, Mich.
Washington University has a seven-stroke lead over host Olivet College, who fired a 315 on day one. St. Mary's College (338), Wittenberg University (342) and Illinois Wesleyan University (343) round out the top-five.
Junior Olivia Lugar and Olivet's Theresa Damico fired a two-over 74 and are tied for the low round after 18 holes. Lugar fired a 37 on both the front and the back nine, and had three birdies on the day.
Sophomore Connie Zhou is three shots back of the lead and tied for third place after an opening round 77 (38-39), while freshman Jessica Wibawa (36-42, 78) and senior Andrea Hibbert (39-40, 79) are in sixth and seventh place respectively. Sophomore Erin Lawrence rounded out the starting lineup with a 90 (45-45), good for 40th place. The Bears had four starters in the top-seven on the opening day.
Washington U. had four student-athletes competing as individuals, and two are sitting in the top-10 after day one. Freshman Xin Fang is three shots of the lead and tied for third after an opening round 77 (39-38), while fellow freshman Samantha Han is tied for ninth place after an 80 (40-40). Wibawa had three birdies in her first collegiate round.
