St. Louis, Mo., October 23, 2013 – Washington University in St. Louis sophomore women's golfer Connie Zhou is featured in the October 28th issue of Sports Illustrated as part of the Faces in the Crowd section. The issue should begin arriving on newsstands and in subscribers' mailboxes on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Zhou is the first Washington University student-athlete to be featured in Sports Illustrated since women's soccer player MeghanMarie Fowler-Finn was in the Nov. 20, 2006, issue.
Zhou won the Golfweek Fall Preview held Oct. 13-15 at Baytowne Golf Club in Destin, Fla. by firing the lowest 54-hole score in school history of 219 (76-72-71). She had three birdies on the back nine of the final day to finish with a 71, the third-lowest 18-hole score in school history.
Zhou, who captured the first tournament victory of her career, ousted Loretta Giovannettone of Methodist by two strokes to capture medalist honors. Giovannettone entered tournament play as the No. 1-ranked player in NCAA Division III. Zhou's career round led the No. 5 ranked Washington University women's golf team to a second-place finish out of 17 teams.
Faces in the Crowd has been published every week in Sports Illustrated since 1956.
