Bears Set Abundance of Personal-Records at Final Qualifier

Naperville, Ill., May 16, 2019 – The Washington University in St. Louis outdoor track & field program had several student-athletes post personal-best marks that ranked in Division III's top-25 Thursday at the Gregory Final Qualifier hosted by North Central College.

Senior Jay Pittman ran to a second place finish in the 100m hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.27. Her time is the eighth best in Division III this season.

Also posting top-five finishes for the WashU women were sophomore Elise Chao in the triple jump (11.64m – third place), freshman Grace Bristow in the 800m (2:14.69 – fourth place) and sophomore Rachel Novick in the 400m hurdles (1:04.32 – fourth place). All three individuals posted personal-best marks with their efforts Thursday.

MEN

The WashU men's 1,500m crew posted five of the top-10 times out of more than 45 competitors and were led by freshman Jacob Ridderhoff's personal-best time of 3:51.46. He placed first while sophomore Tucker Cera (3:51.49) and senior Elvir Sarajlic (3:53.22) placed second and fifth respectively. Ridderhoff, Cera and Sarajlic are the 15th, 17th and 26th fastest 1,500m performers in DIII this year.

Sophomore Arthur Santoro posted a personal-best time of 1:51.68 to claim first place in the 800m run and ranks 13th in DIII.

Sophomore Andrew Whitaker also posted a personal-best time with a top-25 DIII ranking on the year. He placed third overall in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.50 which ranks 20th in DIII.
