St. Louis, Mo.,April 16, 2019 – The Washington University in St. Louis softball team completed the season sweep of Fontbonne University with a 3-2 come from behind win Tuesday at the WU Softball Field in St. Louis.
WashU improved to 13-11 with the win, while Fontbonne dropped to 7-20.
With the Bears trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth with two outs, sophomore Julia Flores delivered a two-RBI double to right center to give the Bears the lead for good. Sophomore Kendall Schwartz added an RBI single to left to push the lead to 3-1.
Schwartz went 2-for-3 with an RBI as WashU recorded seven hits in the win.
Sophomore Abby Graegin (2-5) picked up the win allowing two hits and one earned run in three innings of relief. Schwartz made the start and allowed two hits and an unearned run in four innings.
Diamond Thomas went 2-for-3 for Fontbonne, while Melanie Russo had a towering solo homerun to left in the seventh off Graegin.
WashU opens a four-game series at New York University on Friday, April 19, at 1 p.m. (ET).
