BEAR HEADLINES – The Washington University in St. Louis softball team opens University Athletic Association (UAA) play with a four-game series against Emory University on Friday-Saturday, April 6-7, at the WU Softball Field.

SCOUTING EMORY – The Eagles have won six-straight contents, and opened conference play with a four-game sweep at home against Case Western Reserve University. Emory is hitting .282 as a team, which ranks last in the UAA, but is tops in earned run average (2.22) and fielding percentage (.964). 

Junior outfielder Jenna Wilson (.432) and sophomore Sami Feller (.400) lead the team in hitting, while freshman Jacqueline Spizizen has an 8-4 record with a 2.10 earned run average in a team-high 60.0 innings pitched.

SERIES HISTORY – WashU leads the all-time series with Emory 21-17, and the two teams split the four-game series last year in Atlanta.

ARENDS NAMED UAA AOW – Junior shortstop Taylor Arends was named the UAA Hitter of the Week on April 2. Arends went 4-for-4 with three walks, five runs scored, two doubles, a triple and four RBIs in a split with the University of Chicago on Friday. She was 2-for-2 with two walks, three runs scored and an RBI in a 10-5 loss in game one, and then was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, a walk and three RBIs in a 9-0 five-inning win in game two.

UAA PLAY – WashU has a 115-41 (.737) all-time record in UAA play, and has won a conference-best 10 titles: 2000, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2014, 2015, 2017.
