Kalamazoo, Mich., May 19, 2019 – The No. 7-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team takes the court against No. 3 Emory University in the 2019 NCAA Division III Quarterfinals on Monday, May 20, at Stowe Stadium on the campus of Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich. The match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. (ET).
The Bears are making their 13th-straight NCAA Quarterfinal appearance, and meets Emory for the second time this season. Emory defeated WashU 5-3 on April 27 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Semifinals.
WashU has an overall record of 43-23 (.652) in 21 trips to the NCAA Tournament, and won its lone NCAA Division III National Championship in 2008.
WashU (19-7) defeated No. 27 Kalamazoo College 5-0 on May 11 in Belleville, Ill. to capture the regional title. The Bears are making their 16th overall NCAA quarterfinal appearance, and seeking their eighth NCAA Semifinal appearance in the last 12 years. WashU last advanced to the Final Four in 2015.
Emory (19-2) defeated No. 23 North Carolina Wesleyan 5-1 to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the 22nd-straight season. The Eagles have advanced to 19 Final Fours, and are tied for third all-time in NCAA Division III with four national championships – 2003, 2006, 2012, 2017.
Four quarterfinal matches will take place on Monday, followed by the national semifinals on Tuesday and the national title match on Wednesday.
Following the team championship sophomore Ethan Hillis and junior Bernardo Neves will compete in the singles championship, while Neves and senior Konrad Kozlowski will take the court in the doubles championship. The individual championships are slated for Friday-Sunday, May 24-26 in Kalamazoo, Mich.
