Men's Basketball Preview - at UW-Whitewater/UW-Platteville

St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 13, 2019 – The No. 7-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team plays a pair of road contests at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (Nov. 15) and University of Wisconsin-Platteville (Nov. 16). WashU is coming off an 85-76 win over Illinois College on Nov. 10 in the 2019-20 season opener.

SCOUTING UW-WHITEWATER – The Warhawks won their season opener at Milwaukee School of Engineering 81-77 on Tuesday behind a 19-of-22 effort from the foul line. Junior Equan Ards started his UW-W career with 30 points on 10-of-17 from the floor and 10-of-11 at the free-throw line.

SCOUTING UW-PLATTEVILLE – The Pioneers opened the 2019-20 season with a 112-49 win over Finlandia on Sunday. Junior Quentin Shields led the team with five assists and added nine points as the reserves accounted for 72 of the Pioneers' 112 points.

THE SERIES – WashU leads the all-time series with Wisconsin-Whitewater 1-0, and the teams are meeting for the first time since the 2009 NCAA Tournament – a 73-70 win by the Bears.

WashU and Wisconsin-Platteville have split four all-time meetings. The Pioneers defeated the Bears 64-62 in the finals of the 35th Annual Lopata Classic in 2018.

HARDY NAMED PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN – Sophomore forward Justin Hardy was named to the 2019-20 Street & Smith's Preseason All-America Team. Hardy started all 25 games and was second on the squad averaging 14.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game a year ago. He was named to the 2019 DIII News All-Freshman Team, and picked up UAA Rookie of the Year honors.

BEAR TRACKS – WashU is ranked No. 7 in the D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll. The Bears returns five starters and 13 letterwinners from last year's squad, which finished with a 17-8 overall record.

– Junior guard Jack Nolan is 75-of-81 (92.6 percent) in his three-year career from the free-throw line. Nolan is chasing his uncle Gene (1992-96), WashU's all-time leader in free-throw percentage, at 85.7 (281-328).

– Hardy has scored in double figures in 20 of 26 games played in his career, including 23 in the season-opening 86-75 win at Illinois College.

– Hardy and Nolan each had 23 points in the season-opening win at Illinois College on Nov. 10. The duo combined to score 46 of the Bears 85 points as they were 14-of-25 from the field and 12-of-17 from the free-throw line.

UP NEXT – WashU hosts the 36th Annual Lopata Classic on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 22-23. The Bears take on Coe Friday at 7 p.m., while Whitworth and Wisconsin-Eau Claire take the court at 5 p.m.
