Washington U. Women’s Golf has Three Named WGCA All-American Scholars
St. Louis, Mo., July 2, 2013 – The Washington University in St. Louis women’s golf team had three student-athletes named to the 2012-13 Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team, as announced Tuesday by the organization. A total of 644 women’s collegiate golfers were recognized from NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA.
Freshman Erin Lawrence, sophomore Olivia Lugar and senior Melanie Walsh each received the honor for Washington U. Lugar was honored for the second-straight year, while Lawrence and Walsh picked up the accolade for the first time in their careers.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team is a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 and adjusted scoring average of 95 or lower.
The Washington University women’s golf team placed sixth at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship, its highest finish in school history. The Bears were ranked No. 4 in the final Golf World/NGCA women's coaches' poll and placed in the top-five in nine of 10 tournaments they competed in.
