WUSTL Men’s Soccer Ties Brandeis in UAA Road Match
Waltham, Mass., Nov. 1, 2013 – The Washington University in St. Louis men’s soccer team played to a scoreless double-overtime draw at Brandeis University Friday afternoon in University Athletic Association (UAA) action.
Washington U. opened the match aggressively, with three shots in the first 11 minutes, including two on goal, but the Judges’ defense limited the Bears to just one more shot the remainder of the half. Washington U.’s defense was equally stout, allowing just three shots in the opening period.
The second half started in similar fashion, with Washington U. firing off six shots, before Brandeis took its first shot of the half in the 68th minute. The Bears were unable to get a shot off in the final 24 minutes of regulation, however, as the match went to overtime. Washington U. had a 3-1 shot advantage in the first overtime, but Brandeis goalkeeper Joe Graffy made a pair of saves to preserve the shutout. In the second overtime, Brandeis had a 2-1 shot advantage, but the goalkeeper for each team made a save as the match ended 0-0.
Washington U. outshot Brandeis 14-11 in the match, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. Senior Jonathan Jebson recorded three saves as he recorded his second shutout of the season and the 19th of his career.
Washington U. (8-4-3, 1-2-2 UAA) continues its road trip with a match at New York University (6-6-3, 0-4-1 UAA) at 11 a.m. (ET) in New York. The Violets suffered a 1-0 setback in double-overtime against University of Chicago Friday afternoon.
Bear Notebook: Washington U. leads the all-time series against Brandeis, 17-7-3 … It was just the second time this season the Bears have been shut out.
