Skalman Named Preseason All-America by USA Football and Beyond Sports Network

St. Louis, Mo., July 22, 2013 – Washington University in St. Louis senior defensive back Andrew Skalman was named to the 25th Annual USA College Football and the 203 Beyond Sports Network (BSN) Preseason Division III All-America Second Team, as announced by the websites.
Skalman and Nathan Cheek (Senior, Offensive Lineman) of Carnegie Mellon University were the lone honorees from the University Athletic Association (UAA).
Skalman, a 2012 D3football.com All-South Region Third Team selection, established himself as the top cornerback for the Bears in his third season with the Red and Green. He started all 10 games for the Bears and led the squad in interceptions (five) and passes defended (19). A first-team all-UAA selection, Skalman led the league and was second in Division III in passes defended. He was also second in the UAA and 47th in NCAA Division III in interceptions.
Skalman recorded a career-high four pass break-ups and six tackles against No. 1 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the season opener, and had at least one pass break-up in all 10 games played. Skalman has appeared in 22 games with the Red and Green, making 51 tackles and six interceptions.
Washington University finished the 2012 season with a 5-5 overall record and ended the season on a four-game winning streak. The Bears also won their ninth UAA Championship with a 3-0 record. Washington U. has recorded winning seasons in 20 of 24 seasons under head coach Larry Kindbom.
The Bears open the 2013 season at four-time NCAA Division III national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater Saturday, Sept. 7, in Whitewater, Wis. The Bears open UAA play Saturday, Nov. 2, at Carnegie Mellon University, at Noon.
