Palucki, Ramos and Thompson Selected as UAA Athletes of the Week
St. Louis, Mo., January 13, 2014 – Washington University in St. Louis had three student-athletes named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week for their respective sports, as announced Monday by the Association.
Junior forward Matt Palucki of the No. 7-ranked men’s basketball team, freshman diver Emily Ramos of the women’s swimming and diving team and sophomore guard Jordan Thompson of the second-ranked women’s basketball team each received the accolade.
Palucki scored a game-high 26 points and added six rebounds in the Bears' 80-69 win over the University of Chicago in the UAA opener Saturday. He was 10-of-16 from the field, including 4-of-9 from three-point range in the win. Palucki is averaging 29 points and eight rebounds per game in the last two contests for Washington U.
Ramos won the 3-meter diving and finished second in the 1-meter diving at the WU Invite Friday-Saturday. She posted a score of 374.00 in the 3-meter diving to win by more than 40 points over the runner-up. In the 1-meter diving, Ramos scored 356.10 points to finish less than nine points behind the winner from NCAA Division II Lindenwood University.
Thompson scored a career-high 27 points, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, to lead the second-ranked women to an 87-72 win over Chicago in the UAA opener Saturday. She poured in 18 points in the second half as the Bears pulled away for the win. Thompson's four three-pointers was also a career-high, and she added five rebounds and a game-high six assists as well. She leads the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.3) and is second in assists (5.1).
All three earned the honor for the first time in their careers.
