Lynn Imergoot enters her third year as the associate director of intramurals and club sports on the Danforth Campus. She is in her 36th year overall of service to the University.
Imergoot served as director of women's and coed intramurals from 1972-79, as coordinator of women's athletics from 1977-84, and as an assistant athletic director from 1984-2005.
A five-time recipient of UAA Coach of the Year honors, Imergoot, the first head women's tennis coach in program history, built WU women's tennis program from ground level to a national contender. In 30 seasons (1975-2005) as the Bears' mentor, Imergoot tabulated a career record of 438-166 (.725).
Imergoot elevated the Bears to national prominence as the club has made six consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
In 2002, the team arguably achieved more than any in Imergoot's tenure, posting a program-best 23-4 record and advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. In addition, the doubles team of Rathi Mani and Kat Copiozo not only qualified for the NCAA doubles tournament, they advanced all the way to the national championship match.
In 1997, Imergoot coached Washington U. to its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and then led them back to the Tournament from 2000-05.
Seven years ago, Imergoot received the Rita "Slats" Meyer Moellering Memorial Award from the St. Louis Sports Commission and was named the National Association of Collegiate Women's Athletic Administrators District Five Administrator of the Year.
Prior to coming to the Hilltop Campus, Imergoot taught at White Plains (N.Y.) High School from 1970-72, coaching the girls' tennis team. She earned an A.B. degree in physical education from Lehman College in 1969, where she lettered three years in tennis, four years in field hockey and two years in basketball. In 1970, Imergoot received a master's degree in physical education from the University of Illinois-Urbana, while serving as a graduate teaching assistant.
Imergoot served as a member of the Intercollegiate Tennis Assocation's Division III Midwest Rankings Committee (1991-92) and the NCAA Division III Midwest Selection Advisory Committee for Women's Tennis (1989-92). She received a "Certificate in Writing for the Professional" from Washington U. in 1990 and has had articles published in the NAGWS Tennis Guide, Athletic Journal and Scholastic Coach. Her family includes son Douglas, 29, and daughter Jennifer, 26.
