Cross Country Earns Top-4 Finishes at NCAA Championships

Louisville, Ky., Nov. 23, 2019 –The Washington University in St. Louis men's and women's cross country programs netted top four finishes today at the 2019 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Ky., at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.

This marks the women's program 12th final four appearance while the men's squad collected the program's seventh. 

The No. 1 – ranked women's program finished second with 138 points, behind Johns Hopkins' 125 points. Seniors Paige Lawler led the Bears finished seventh with a time of 21:26.1 while Sophie Watterson crossed the finish line at 21:51.6 in 19thplace as both collected All-American status.

Junior Katie Snodgrass turned in a time of 22:17.5 (45th) as freshman Ella Behrens finished at 22:32.8 (62nd). Sophomore Sophie Young rounded out WashU scoring with a time of 22:36.7. 

Also competing for the WashU, sophomore Gabby McGinn completed the race in 23:11.6 (148th) while junior Megan Girmscheid unfortunately did not finish but was an integral part of the Bear's lineup all season.

The No. 10-ranked men's program finished in fourth-place after tallying 193 total points. Senior Nick Matteucci led the Bears on the course with a time of 24:49.5 to finish 20thearning All-American status, while senior Marco Quaroni was also named as an All-American after he posted a time of 24:56.2 (38th). 

Sophomore Patrick Norrick crossed the finish line at 25:10.3 (56th).  Junior Tucker Cera posted a time of 25:11.8 (62nd) as sophomore Jacob Ridderhoff rounded out the Bears scoring with a time of 25:13.5. 

Junior Joe Stover turned in a time of 25:16.7 (73rd) while senior Jack Sebok finished the race in 25:21.6 (84th).

This marks the 79thand 80thfinal four finish in WashU athletics history.
