St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 19, 2019 –The Washington University in St. Louis men's and women's cross country programs had five men and seven women recognized as All-Region honorees by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced.
The No. 2 ranked women's program had all seven competitors collect top-35 finishes after the team took home the Midwest Regional title on Nov. 16. Senior Paige Lawler paced the 6K field to her first-place finish with a time of 21:53.0.
Senior Sophie Watterson crossed the finish line in fourth-place (22.24.5) while junior Katie Snodgrass came in seventh-place (22:29.2). Sophomore Sophie Young tallied a time of 22:36.8 to finish in 12thplace as junior Megan Girmscheid came in right behind her at 22:41.6 in 13th.
The No. 8-ranked men's program had five student-athletes earn All-Region honors after finishing third at the Midwest Regional. Senior Nick Matteucci led the Bears with a fourth-place finished at 24:48.8.
Senior Marco Quaroni crossed at 25:17.0 (19th) as junior Joe Stover came in right behind him at 25:21.5 (20th). Sophomore Patrick Norrick put together a time of 25:27.0 (27th) while junior Tucker Cera rounded out WashU with a time of 25:31.6 (31st).
WashU will compete at the 2019 NCAA Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 23 at the E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. The men's race will begin at 10:45 a.m. ET and the women's race will start at 11:45 a.m. ET.
