Cross Country Takes Top Two Spots at Dan Huston Invite

Waverly, Iowa, October 5, 2019– The Washington University in St. Louis cross country women's team took first place (34 points) while the men's squad was just edged to finish second place (39 points) on a soggy course at the Dan Huston Invitational, hosted by Wartburg College on Saturday afternoon.  

The No. 3-ranked women's squad was paced on the 6K course by senior Paige Lawler, who finished first with a time of 22:41.2. Junior Megan Girmscheid crossed the finish line in sixth, clocking in at 23:31.0. Freshman Ella Behrens, sophomore Gabby McGinn, and sophomore Sophie Young finished eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively to aid the Bears 34-point score. Behrens posted 23:44.3, while McGinn tallied a time of 23:51.8 and Young crossed at 23:52.2. 

The No. 3-ranked men's team had three top-10 finishes, led by senior Marco Quaroni with a time of 26:24.0. Senior Nick Matteucci crossed the finish line in fourth at 26:25.6. With a time of 26:36.0 senior Jack Sebok tallied a ninth-place finish. Junior Joe Stover (26:40.3) and sophomore Patrick Norrick (26:42.5) came in 11thand 12thplace to wrap up the Bears scoring on the 8K course.

The men's team finished behind host school Wartburg by two points.
