Hodkinson and Stiles Awarded USTFCCCA Midwest Honors

St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 13, 2018 –
Washington University in St. Louis cross country senior Brad Hodkinson and head coach Jeff Stiles were awarded Midwest Region awards by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) honors Tuesday afternoon, as announced by the association.

Hodkinson was named the Midwest Region Male Athlete of the Year after placing first with a WashU personal-best time of 24:31.8 at the Midwest Regional Championship to claim the individual title. He has won three of five races competed in this season including the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, while placing 14th at the Loyola Lakefront 8K race which was against predominantly Division I competitors. Hodkinson is the first male athlete from WashU to be named the Regional Athlete of the Year since Andrew Padgett in 2014.

Stiles was named the Midwest Region Women's Coach of the Year for the seventh time in the last 14 seasons, including fourth in the past five years. He helped guide the WashU women to a Midwest Region Championship as the Bears scored 58 points while all seven runners earned All-Region honors with top-35 finishes: Paige Lawler (2nd), Sophie Watterson (6th), Aly Wayne (7th), Lisa Gorham (13th), Megan Girmscheid (30th), Gabby McGinn (33rd) and Katie Snodgrass (35th).

Both the No. 2-ranked WashU men and women will compete in the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championship on Saturday, Nov. 17, with the women's 6K beginning at 11:15 a.m. in Winneconne, Wis.
