Curci Leads Women’s Cross Country to First at SIUE, Men Finish Third

Edwardsville, Ill., Oct. 4, 2014 – Sophomore Sarah Curci led a pack of five top-10 finishers for the Washington University in St. Louis women's cross country team as the Bears won the team title at the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville John Flamer Invite Saturday. The Washington U. men finished third overall.

The Washington University women scored 28 points to win the team title over NCAA Division II Wayne State University (Mich.) who finished second with 42 points. NCAA Division I DePaul University was third with 65 points. Host SIUE won the men's team title with 59 points, edging Wayne State (62) and Washington U. (65) who finished second and third, respectively.

Curci ran a career-best time of 22:16.24 to win the women's individual title in the 6K race that featured 72 runners. Junior Ellen Toennies ran a season-best time of 22:26.88 to finish fourth overall and sophomore Kimberly Johnson clocked a career-best time of 23:02.46 to place sixth. Freshman Alison Lindsay (23:05.61) and junior Bri Tiffany (23:06.84) rounded out the scoring for the WUSTL women by finishing eighth and ninth, respectively.

Junior Josh Clark was the top finisher for the Washington U. men, placing sixth with a season-best time of 25:39.89 on the 8K course. Sophomore Ryan Becker also finished in the top-10 for the Bears, running a career-best time of 25:50.75 to place ninth in the field of 79 runners.
