WashU Volleyball Receives AVCA Academic Team Award

St. Louis, Mo., July 24, 2019 –
The Washington University in St. Louis volleyball team was awarded the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic honor, as announced by the association.

The Bears finished the 2018-19 academic year with a team grade point average of 3.558. WashU had a 3.57 GPA during the fall season, as 14 student-athletes posted a GPA above 3.50 during their season of play.

Teams must finish the 2018-19 academic year with a cumulative GPA of 3.30 in order to receive the 2019 AVCA Team Academic Award.

In addition, WashU was recognized by the AVCA as reaching its fundraising goal during the Dig Pink night.

WashU finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 26-8, and earned its 32nd-straight NCAA Tournament berth, reaching the second round. Senior Julianne Malek was selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Third Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
