St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 8, 2018 – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its All-Region honorees Thursday morning with two Bears from the No. 13-ranked Washington University in St. Louis Volleyball team making the cut.
Malek was named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) First Team on Wednesday and added to her accomplishments this season. She currently leads Division III with a .438 hitting percentage and has totaled 331 kills, 103 blocks (16 solo), 88 digs and 49 aces. Malek joined Ufondu in the 1,000 kill club this past weekend and has accumulated 1,005 in her career.
Ufondu also was named to the All-UAA First Team. She leads the Bears with a personal-best 3.42 kills per set and has amassed a team-leading 356 kills. In addition, Ufondu has accounted for 130 digs, 59 blocks (nine solo) and 12 aces. On October 13, she joined the 1,000 kill club with a career-best 27 kills in a five-set victory over Carnegie Mellon. Ufondu currently ranks 21st all-time in school history with 1,122, trailing Jackie Nelligan (2012-15) by just a single kill for a tie in 20th place.
