St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 22, 2015 – The Washington University in St. Louis volleyball team will host its annual "Dig for Pink" night during its final regular-season match at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, against Webster University. Prior to Dig for Pink night, the Bears will hold a benefit night Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Salt & Smoke on the Delmar Loop.
The benefit at Salt & Smoke will run from 5 p.m. to close Wednesday, and five percent of sales will be donated to Washington University's Siteman Cancer Center. Salt & Smoke is located at 6525 Delmar Blvd. in University City, Mo.
The Bears will also be raffling off two gift baskets with apparel, gift cards and assorted items during the Dig for Pink match against Webster. Winners must be present when the raffle is drawn after the first set of the match. Tickets will be sold at the match, as well as from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday at the Danforth University Center. All proceeds from the Dig for Pink night will also be donated to the Siteman Cancer Center.
After the second set of the match, the team will take time to honor all breast cancer survivors and those currently battling breast cancer in attendance. In addition, Chera Dunn, Manager of the Breast Health Center at Siteman Cancer Center, will speak briefly about the work being done at Siteman.
There will also be display boards allowing people to honor anyone they know who is a breast cancer survivor or has lost a battle with breast cancer. Everyone attending the Webster match is encouraged to wear pink in support of the Dig for Pink event.
The WashU volleyball team is currently 26-2 overall and ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division III. The Bears have a pair of road matches Friday before concluding the regular season with the match against Webster. Prior to the Webster match, WashU will recognize Zastrow and her fellow seniors, Anna Bryniarski, Jackie Nelligan and Nkiru Udenze, as part of Senior Night at the WU Field House. Admission to all volleyball matches is free.
