St. Louis, Mo., August 21, 2014 – Washington University in St. Louis sophomores will enjoy free concessions and prizes at Spirit Day sporting events this fall.
Red Alert, the Sophomore Class Council and the Second Year Experience Committee have teamed up to launch Sophomore Spirit Days. At select sporting events, sophomores will receive $5 in free concessions and giveaways as they cheer on the Bears.
The Sophomore Spirit Day schedule is as follows:
Volleyball vs. Southwestern – Friday, Sept. 5 – 7:30 p.m.
Football vs. North Park – Saturday, Sept. 20 – 1 p.m.
Men's Soccer vs. #15 Wheaton (Ill.) – Friday, Sept. 26 – 7 p.m.
Women's Soccer vs. #7 Wheaton (Ill.) – Saturday, Sept 27 – 1 p.m.
"The Spirit Days give sophomores a chance to come together, enjoy free food and prizes, and rally behind the Bears," said Dean Matt DeVoll, Chair of the Second Year Experience Committee. "As students return to campus, these events give them a great way to join friends and meet new people, while supporting some really great teams."
Sophomores will have a lot to cheer for. The Bears' volleyball team is a perennial powerhouse and will play for its 28th-consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament, while the football squad aims to win an 11th University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship and advance to the NCAA Division III playoffs for a second year in a row.
The men's soccer team is poised to contend in the UAA and return to the NCAA Tournament for the 22nd time in school history, while the women's soccer squad is ranked No. 4 in the NSCAA Preseason Top-25 Poll and aiming for a third-straight UAA title.
