No. 13 WashU Drops Fifth-Place Match at ITA Indoors

Nashville, Tenn., March 3, 2019 – The No. 13-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to No. 11 Carnegie Mellon University Sunday in the fifth-place match at the 2019 ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Nashville, Tenn. 

WashU led 2-1 after doubles play following wins at No. 1 (Ally Persky/Lisa Chionis) and No. 3 (Divya Sharma/Laurel Wanger), but CMU picked up four straight-set victories in singles to clinch the victory. 

Persky and Chionis' win at No. 1 doubles was their biggest of the season, upsetting NCAA Division III's No. 2-ranked team of Melissa Strome and Dannay Taylor 8-7 (7-5). The duo from Carnegie Mellon lost in the ITA Cup Division III Doubles National Championship in October.
