Women’s Tennis Wraps up Play at ITA Regionals

Kalamazoo, Mich., Sept. 23, 2018 – Freshman Divya Sharma of the Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team won two singles matches Sunday to advance to the championship match in the back draw at the 2018 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships held at Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Sharma posted straight-set victories over Mira Amin (6-1, 6-0) of Case Western Reserve University and Megan Hickey (6-1, 6-2) of Denison University to set up the final match against No. 9 seed Madeleine Paolucci of Case.

The championship match was abandoned due to Paolucci's appearance in the semifinals in the doubles draw.

"ITA Regionals is a big tournament. It's great for team bonding and great to see where your team is early in the season," said WashU head coach Kelly Stahlhuth. "We know we have work to do as we enter the spring."

Sophomore Grace Hederick played her quarterfinal back draw match Sunday but fell to Ilana Blackwood of Kenyon College 6-2, 6-4.
