Women’s Tennis Has Success on Day One at ITA Regional

Kalamazoo, Mich., Sept. 21, 2018 – The Washington University in St. Women's tennis battled 20-mile per hour winds all day and had three singles players and four doubles teams advance to the Round of 32 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships held at Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Sophomores Ashley Lessen, the No. 8 seed in the 128-singles draw, advanced with a pair of victories. Also posting a pair of victories was senior Lisa Chionis and sophomore Laurel Wanger.

In doubles, the Bears had four teams that picked up a win on day one: No. 4 seed Lessen and sophomore Ally Persky, No. 9 seed Chionis and freshman Stephanie Ren, No. 9 seed freshman Emma Verpoucke and Wanger, and sophomore Grace Hederick and senior Brigitte Hodge.
