St. Louis, Mo., May 8, 2017 — The No. 11-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team received an at-large bid to the 2017 NCAA Division III Championship, as announced Monday by the NCAA. The Bears will travel to Whitewater, Wis., for a seven-team regional scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, May 11-13.
Regional host and No. 27-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (19-7) and Northwestern-St. Paul (23-5) begin the action on Thursday at 9:30 a.m., and are followed by No. 21 Hope College (18-3) and College of St. Scholastica (18-5) at 12 p.m. John Carroll University (16-9) and Concordia University Wisconsin (16-10) meet in the final match Thursday at 3 p.m.
The winners of Hope/St. Scholastica and Wisconsin-Whitewater/Northwestern-St. Paul will meet in the second round on Friday at 11 a.m. The winner of John Carroll and Concordia-Wisconsin will take on WashU Friday in the second round at 2:30 p.m.
The second round winners will meet in the Regional Championship match on Saturday at Noon.
The Bears are making their 18th overall NCAA Championship appearance and 10th in a row. WashU has an all-time record of 13-17 (.433) in the NCAA tournament. The Bears have advanced to the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals four times in school history.
WashU is one of four UAA squads selected to the NCAA Tournament: No. 3 Emory University, No. 9 University of Chicago and No. 10 Carnegie Mellon University.
Sewanee will host the 2017 NCAA Division III Team Championship Monday-Wednesday, May 22-24, at Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. The NCAA Individual Championships are scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, May 25-27. Student-athletes selected to compete in the individual championships will be announced Wednesday, May 10.
