Women’s Tennis Has Success on Day One of ITA Regional

Kalamazoo, Mich., Sept. 30, 2016 – The Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team has two singles players and three doubles teams remaining after the opening day of the 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Regional held at Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich.

With all play moved indoors due to rain, senior top-seed Rebecca Ho cruised into the round of 32 with a pair of wins. Ho lost a total of four games in the two matches. Freshman Sanjna Tripathy posted a pair of wins Friday, including a win over No. 17 seed Katrin Gurvich of Case Western Reserve University 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 in the opening round.

WashU had success in doubles play on day one, advancing three teams into the round of 32. Ho and senior Kaylan Griffith, the top seed in the 64-team draw, posted an 8-0 win in its opening match. No. 9 seed senior Lisa Chionis and freshman Libby Jubas recorded an 8-2 win, while senior Mindy Borovsky and freshman Sofia Burnett also advanced with an 8-6 win.

Doubles play begins Saturday at 8 a.m., followed by singles play at 2:30 p.m.
