Sumter, S.C., Oct. 10, 2014 – Washington University in St. Louis sophomore Rebecca Ho earned a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 win over top-seeded Caroline Ward of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges to advance to the fifth-place match at the 2014 USTA/ITA National Small College Championships Friday morning at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
After splitting the first two sets, Ho built a 3-0 lead in the third set and eventually served for the 6-2 win to seal her eighth singles victory of the season. With the win, Ho advanced to the fifth-place match to face No. 3-seed Andrea Madrigal of the University of La Verne at 10:30 a.m. (ET) Saturday. Ward, who finished the 2013-14 season ranked No. 17 in singles and earned All-America honors in both singles and doubles last year, dropped to Saturday's seventh-place match.
