No. 6 Women’s Soccer Runs Win Streak to Six

Fenton, Mo., Sept. 25, 2019 – The No. 6-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team ran its winning streak to six games with a 2-0 victory over Webster Wednesday at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo.

WashU improved to 8-1-1 with the victory, while Webster fell to 5-3.

WashU outshot Webster 31-7 and had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Emma Greenfield tied a season-high with three saves, including a stop on a breakaway with seven minutes left. 

The Bears took control of the game in the opening 30 minutes scoring a pair of goals. Sophomore Ariana Miles found the back of the net in the 11th minute of a nice feed from senior Taylor Cohen. The goal for Miles was her team-leading fourth of the season.

In the 30th minute, junior Ellie Moreland dribbled over 50 yards through the middle of the Webster defense and fired a shot from 20 yards out to the far corner. The goal for Moreland was her first of the season and second of her career. WashU outshot Webster 17-3 in the first half.

WashU plays its final non-conference game of the year at home on Wednesday, Oct. 2, against Millikin University. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. 

BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU leads the all-time series with Webster, 19-0-1, and the Bears have won the last 18 meetings… Head coach Jim Conlon is two wins shy of 200 for his career at WashU … The assist for Cohen was the 25th of her career, sixth most in school history.
