No. 1 WashU Finishes Off Regular-Season Undefeated

St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 3, 2018 – The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team completed its first undefeated regular-season in school history with a 2-0 victory over No. 20 University of Chicago Saturday at Francis Field in St. Louis.

WashU improved to 17-0 and 7-0 in University Athletic Association (UAA), while Chicago dropped to 13-4-1 and 4-3 UAA. 

WashU outshot Chicago 16-9 and the Maroons had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Greenfield made a pair of saves as the WashU defense recorded its 13thshutout of the season. Sophomore Kristen Reikersdorfer came up big twice for WashU in the second half recording two team saves.

WashU had the 4-3 shot advantage in the first half, and the Bears scored in the 28thminute after senior Maggie Crist finished a long cross from senior Hannah Menard for the lone goal in the half. The goal for Crist was her fifth of the season.

In the 53rdminute, Chicago had a golden opportunity off a corner kick, but Reikersdorfer made a team save to keep it a one-goal game.

Reikersdorfer came up huge again in the 79th minute after she cleared a header off the line for her second team save of the half. 

Junior Taylor Cohen scored the insurance goal in the 83rdminute after she drilled a shot that deflected off the cross bar into the back of the net. Freshman Marissa Kalkar dished the ball to Cohen after freshman Jess Shapiro got clipped on the play.

was credited with the assist after she was taken down on the play after distributing the pass to Cohen.

Cohen finished the regular season leading the conference in goals (11), points (29) and game-winning goals (4).

The 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Selection show is set for Monday, Nov. 5, at 12:30 p.m. (CT). The Bears are making their 13th-straight NCAA appearance and 18th overall.
