No. 1 WashU Blanks Rochester on Goal by Maggie Crist

Rochester, N.Y., Oct. 7, 2018 – The No. 1-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team limited host University of Rochester to a season-low two shots in a 1-0 win Sunday in University Athletic Association (UAA) play in Rochester, N.Y.

WashU improved to 11-0 and 2-0 in the UAA, while Rochester fell to 6-4-1 and 0-2 in the UAA. The Bears are off to a 11-0 start for the second time in school history.

WashU recorded the first seven shots off the game, and senior Maggie Crist gave the Bears a 1-0 lead with a 35-yard shot from straight on in the 26thminute. The goal for Crist was the seventh of her career.

Junior Jesse Rubin nearly made it 2-0 at 31:23 when her shot from 30 yards out was deflected over the crossbar by Rochester goalkeeper Emma Schechter. Off the corner kick, freshman Gabbie Cesarone sent a shot that went off the crossbar.

The Bears were limited to five shots in the second half, with four coming on goal. 

WashU outshot Rochester 18-2 and had a 10-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Greenfield and the back line of Crist, freshman Gabbie Cesarone, senior Hannah Menard and sophomore Katy Mockett posted the Bears ninth shutout of the season, second most in NCAA Division III.

WashU takes on Case Western Reserve Friday at 7:30 p.m. (ET) in Cleveland. 

BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU leads the all-time series with Rochester, 17-11-2 … The game-winner for Crist as the second of her career … The Bears are one of four remaining undefeated teams in Division III… Rochester has played each of the top four-ranked teams in D3 this season … WashU has won 11 or more games in all 11 seasons under head coach Jim Conlon… The victory for Conlon was his 180th at WashU.
