No. 10 Women’s Soccer Wins Season Opener at No. 22 Loras

Dubuque, Iowa, August 31, 2018 – The No. 10-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team opened the 2018 season with a 3-0 victory at No. 22 Loras College Friday in Dubuque, Iowa.

"Loras played very hard and really tight on defense. We finally capitalized later in the game. Once we got one, we built some confidence," said head coach Jim Conlon, a 1998 alum of Loras. "The defense was excellent today and complimented each other well."

WashU outshot Loras 17-1 and did now allow a shot on goal. Sophomore Emma Greenfield picked up her sixth career shutout in goal.

After a scoreless first half, the Bears finally got on the scoreboard in the 68thminute after freshman Erin Flynn slid a pass from the end line to senior Darcy Cunningham for a goal. The goal for Cunningham was the 14thof her career.

In the 84thminute, senior Caroline Dempsey scored off a rebound by freshman Ariana Miles and then three minutes later freshman Jess Shapiro added an insurance goal on an assist from sophomore Kristen Reikersdorfer.
