St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 2, 2017 – The No. 2 ranked and defending national champion Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to 25 games dating back to last season with a 4-0 win over Principia College Monday in non-conference action at Francis Field in St. Louis.
WashU won its third-straight game to improve to 10-0-1, while Principia dropped its seventh-straight contest and fell to 1-9.
Four Bears found the back of the net as WashU outshot Principia 41-0 and had a 11-0 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore Katy Hutson (78:30) and senior Megan Wolf (11:30) combined to post the Bears' eighth shutout of the season in goal.
The Bears jumped out to a commanding 3-0 with three goals in the first half. Wolf scored from 25 yards out in the 10th minute, and then senior Rachel Mickelson found the back of the net on a breakaway in the 26th minute.
Senior Alison Cerny scored in the 86th minute on a shot to the far corner from 25 yards out to round out the scoring.
WashU hosts Rochester (5-3-1, 0-1 UAA) on Sunday, Oct. 8, at 1:30 p.m.
BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU leads the all-time series with Principia, 29-3, and the Bears have won the last 17 meetings … The game-winning goal for Wolf was the first of her career, and she also appeared in goal for the first time … WashU is 6-0-1 at home this year, and unbeaten in their last 28 games at Francis Field … The Bears are one of 11 teams that remain unbeaten in NCAA Division III.
