St. Louis, Mo., August 29, 2017 – Washington University in St. Louis junior midfielder Maggie Crist was named to the 2017 Division3 Sports News Preseason Women's Soccer All-America Team, as announced by the website.
Crist earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) First-Team and D3soccer.com Second-Team All-America honors a year ago after starting 22 games in the midfield for the Bears. She scored one goal and also recorded 29 shots.
A first-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) and all-Central Region selection, Crist was part of the WashU defense which set a single-season school record with 18 shutouts and a 0.32 goals against average. The Bears defensive unit also allowed eight goals on the season, tied for the lowest mark in school history.
WashU won the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championship after posting a 5-4 shootout victory over Messiah College Dec. 3 in Salem, Va. The Bears recorded a 19-2-3 overall record, the second most wins in school history, and won the UAA championship for the fourth time in the last five years.
The Bears begin the 2017 season at DePauw University on Friday, Sept 1, at 7 p.m. (ET). WashU hosts Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the home opener on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 6:30 p.m.
