Bloomington, Ill., Sept. 17, 2016 – The No. 3-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season in a 1-0 defeat to University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Saturday in Bloomington, Ill.
Whitewater won its fifth-straight game to improve to 6-1, while WashU fell to 5-1.
"We played well tonight but we did not get a result," said WashU head coach Jim Conlon. "Our team is continuing to learn each time out."
Senior Lizzy Crist, the 2015 D3soccer.com Goalkeeper of the Year, was injured in a collision in the 26th minute and did not return.
Freshman Katy Hutson (0-1) played the final 64:56 in goal making three saves.
WashU outshot UW-Whitewater 12-6 and had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
WashU takes on Illinois Wesleyan University (1-3-1) Sunday at 3 p.m. in Bloomington, Ill.
BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU leads the all-time series with UW-Whitewater 2-1 … The two teams met in the NCAA Sectional Championship a year ago … The Bears have outscored their opponents 17-1 this season.
