St. Louis, Mo., September 25, 2013 – Sophomore Olivia Lillegraven netted a pair of first-half goals as the No. 3-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team posted a 3-0 victory over local-rival Webster University Wednesday night at Francis Field in St. Louis.
Lillegraven, who is second in the University Athletic Association (UAA) in goal scored with seven, scored a pair of goals two minutes apart to put Washington U. up 2-0. She headed home a cross from senior Becky Berels at the 11:25 mark, and then scored on a shot from 25 yards out just two minutes later on an assist from senior Jessica Johnson.
Senior Kate Doyle added an insurance goal at the 50:35 mark in the second half when her free kick from 24 yards out deflected off a Webster defender and into the net.
Washington U. outshot Webster 24-5 for the game and had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore Amy French picked up the win in net making one save in 75:30, while freshman Lizzy Crist made on save in the final 14:30. It marked the seventh shutout in eight games for the Bears.
Washington U. (7-1) returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Principia College. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Elsah, Ill.
Bear Notebook: Washington U. leads the all-time series with Webster, 13-0-2 … The Bears are 51-9-3 (.833) at home the past six seasons … Washington U. has yet to allow a goal in regulation … Webster had its three-game win streak snapped and droped to 8-2.
