Sandestin, Fla., Oct. 16, 2018 – The No. 1-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team fired a final round low 302 to push up the Golfweek D3 Invite leaderboard three places, finishing third overall with a 939 (321, 316, 302) at the conclusion of three-day tournament at Baytowne Golf Club.
All four Bears competing fired in the 70s to help WashU climb from a tie in eighth place Sunday to third overall Tuesday. No. 6-ranked Rhodes College won the event with a 920 (317, 300, 303) while No. 16 Carnegie Mellon University placed second – 938 (319, 310, 309).
Filling out the top-five finishes were WashU, followed by No. 8 Berry College – 951 (311, 319, 321), No. 12 Methodist University – 954 (313, 323, 318) and Oglethorpe University – 954 (322, 318, 314).
"The team demonstrated tremendous grit and heart with its comeback today," said head coach Mary Swanson. "I'm very proud of how they finished the fall season."
The Bears were led by junior Samantha Haubenstock as she totaled 225 strokes (74, 77, 74) to tie for second place. Haubenstock led the group of 93 golfers by shooting par on 37 holes. She also recorded four birdies overall, including two on the back-nine Tuesday.
Freshman Alyssa Kim tied for 17th place after a final round score of four-over par 76. Kim fired a one-under par front nine and led the Bears with five birdies overall. She posted a final score of 235 (85, 74, 76).
Senior Chloe DiPetrillo had a 54-hole total of 239 (82, 81, 76) to finished tied for 24th overall. DiPetrillo totaled 31 pars and three birdies, including two during the final round of play.
Freshman Julia Dai rounded out the Bears lineup and finished with a team-best even par on the back-nine of the final round. She recorded three birdies on the back-nine and tied for 30th overall with 240 strokes (80, 84, 76).
