Women’s Golf Holds on for Dan Quayle Classic Title

Danville, Ind., Sept. 24, 2017 – The Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team held on for the tournament victory by a single stroke over Wittenberg University on Sunday afternoon at the Dan Quayle Collegiate Classic on the Twin Bridges Golf Club.

WashU finished with the tournament low score of 616 (296-320), while Wittenberg closed in on the Bears during round two to come within one, 617 (304-313). The Red & Green victory marks their second title on the season.

Following the Bears and Tigers were DePauw (628, 316-312), Illinois Wesleyan (634, 308-326), Marian (640, 315-325), North Central (658, 334-324), Denison (662, 332-330), Millikin (684, 403-281) and Kansas Wesleyan (713, 361-352).

Four Bears earned All-Tournament honors including junior Chloe DiPetrillo (151, 72-79), sophomore Samantha Haubenstock (152, 75-77) and senior Erin Drolet (153, 70-83) from the starting lineup while sophomore Emily Carnes (155, 81-74) also earned the honors.

"Our ball striking was pretty good both days hitting a high percentage of fairways and greens," said head coach Ellen Port. "We had some trouble on the greens. We consider ourselves fortunate to come out on top this weekend."

Freshman Gigi Garcia posted the fourth score for the Bears lineup during round two, finishing Sunday with 81 strokes.
