St. Louis, Mo., April 9, 2017 – The Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team finished sixth of 15 programs during the Sixth Annual WashU Spring Invitational over the weekend at the Norman K. Probstein Golf Course in Forest Park.
WashU finished the two-day tournament with a score of 631 (314-317), while No. 4 Rhodes College finished with a tournament record 597 (294-303) to win the title. Following Rhodes and ahead of WashU were Gustavus Adolphus (624, 312-312), No. 17 DePauw (625, 326-299), No. 12 Carleton (627, 317-310) and No. 5 Wittenberg (630, 314-316).
Placing behind the Bears were Illinois Wesleyan (638, 318-320), No. 24 Centre (644, 326-318), Sewanee (646, 320-326), Carthage (662, 331-331), Grinnell (662, 338-324), No. 22 Huntingdon (679, 335-344), St. Mary's (Ind.) (693, 353-340), Olivet (695, 350-345) and North Central (748, 383-365).
Earning All-Tournament honors for WashU was freshman Samantha Haubenstock. She shot a six-over 76 during the final round and finished 10 strokes over par with a weekend score of 150. The Weston, Fla.-native tied for fourth while tying for the tournament lead with six birdies.
Freshman Angelica Harris also scored a second round six-over 76 while totaling 157 strokes over the weekend to tie for 20th out of 87 golfers. She earned her first birdie of the tournament on the par-4 13th hole.
Sophomore Chloe DiPetrillo and junior Erin Drolet also finished the second round with their first birdies of the tournament. DiPetrillo did so twice on the par-3 third and par-4 eighth hole. Drolet's birdie came on the par-3 11th. DiPetrillo (162, 78-84) and Drolet (162, 81-81) tied for 33rd individually.
Meanwhile senior Jessica Wibawa led the second-day action with four birdies, scoring a 76 individually. She birdied on the par-5 fifth, par-4 ninth, par-4 13th and par-3 17th holes. She tied for the 14th best score on the weekend (155, 79-76).
Closing out the Bears lineup was sophomore Hanna Jia (175, 86-89). Freshman Emily Carnes also shot in the 70s on the final day and totaled a weekend score of 166 (87-79). The final Bears birdie of the weekend came from freshman Cecilia Schwaber (194, 95-99) on the par-3 11th. Sophomore Sabrina Ho tied for 50th individually (167, 82-85).
