Drolet Leads No. 3 Women’s Golf to Second Place Finish at Rhodes

Germantown, Tenn. March 23, 2015 – Freshman Erin Drolet fired a career-low round of 74 on day two as the No. 3-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team placed second out of seven teams at the Joe Duncan Rhodes Invitational held Sunday-Monday at Windyke West Golf Club in Germantown, Tenn.

Drolet overcame an opening round of 80 with her two-over 74 to finish in a four-way tie for fourth place in the individual standings with a score of 154. Senior Olivia Lugar (74-80) and junior Connie Zhou (78-76) also fired a 36-hole score of 154 to finish in a tie for fourth place.

"I really like how we are progressing as a team. I thought it was important for us to finish today with a better team score than yesterday," said seventh-year head coach Sean Curtis. "We did that and I felt like we more comfortable on the greens. They were fast and grainy. We won't see many courses with greens like that. We were focused all weekend especially during the rain yesterday."

No. 7-ranked Wittenberg University led from start to finish and captured the team title with a score of 616 (314-302). WashU was 10 strokes back of Wittenberg with a two-day total of 626 (315-311). No. 10 Rhodes College (319-317, 636), No. 18 Huntingdon College (330-331, 661) and No. 11 Carthage College (334-335, 669) round out the top five in the seven-team field.

Junior Erin Lawrence finished in a tie for 12th place with a score of 164 (83-81), while sophomore Jessica Wibawa rounded out the starting lineup with a 25th place finish (87-85, 172). Sophomore Samantha Han was the top finisher as an individual after a 36-hole score of 166 (81-85).

Washington U. hosts the Fourth Annual Washington University Spring Invitational Saturday-Sunday, March 28-29, at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill.

BEAR NOTEBOOK: Lugar led the tournament in par 5 scoring (4.88, -1) and pars (25) … The Bears were second as a team in par 3 scoring (3.40), par 4 scoring (4.48) and par 5 scoring (5.28) … WashU led the tournament field with 93 pars.
