Women’s Golf Finishes Seventh at NCAA Championship

Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., May 16, 2014 – Led by a top-20 finish by sophomore Connie Zhou, Washington University in St. Louis posted a seventh-place finish at the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship held Tuesday-Friday at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The seventh-place finish is the second-highest in school history.

Washington U. finished the NCAA Championship with a four-day total of 1,300 (328-318-324-330). Rhodes College claimed its first national championship in school history by an impressive 24 strokes over second-place and defending national champion University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Georgiana Salant of Williams College grabbed the individual national championship with a four-round total of 303 after firing a four-over 76 over the course of the final round.

Rhodes closed out the NCAA Championship with a 308, the lowest round of the four-day tournament. Williams (1,285), University of Texas-Tyler (1,291), Ithaca College (1,298) and Methodist University (1,298) rounded out the top five. Ithaca and Methodist tied for fifth place.

Zhou, who finished 18th a year ago, posted a four-day total of 322 (78-80-79-85) to finish in a tie for 19th place. Freshman Samantha Han also had an impressive performance by placing 26th with a total of 324 (84-79-79-82). Junior Olivia Lugar (332, 33rd place), freshman Xin Fang (332, 33rd place) and senior Andrea Hibbert (334, 38th place) also posted a top-40 finish.

The NCAA Third Round was completed Friday morning after the week's lightning delays. After the completion of the third round, an administrative cut was made to ensure the final round was completed before dark on Friday. The best 12 teams and six individuals not on those teams made the final round.

The NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship will return to the Mission Inn Resort in 2015 and will again be co-hosted by Oglethorpe University and the Central Florida Sports Commission.

BEAR NOTEBOOK: Hibbert was tied for third with seven birdies ... Washington U. led the 21-team field in Par 5 scoring (5.26, +21).
