Zhou and Hibbert Lead No. 1 Women’s Golf Past Illinois Wesleyan
Springfield, Ill., April 29, 2014 – Sophomore Connie Zhou paced the field with a 77 (+5) as the No. 1-ranked Washington University in St. Louis defeated Illinois Wesleyan University by 13 strokes (319-332) in the IWU-WUSTL Dual Tuesday afternoon at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, Ill.
Washington U. shot a 319 in the 18-hole dual match on a chilly and windy day. The Titans shot a 332 and were led by junior Amy Seter, who tied for second overall with a round of 79.
Zhou has now shot below 80 in 17 of 20 rounds this season and ranks fifth in NCAA Division III with a 76.84 stroke average. She contributed two birdies of her own, a 20-footer on No. 9 and a 15-footer on No. 11.
Senior Andrea Hibbert fired a 79 against Illinois Wesleyan, highlighted by a pair of birdie putts. Hibbert drained a 10-footer on No. 3 and a six-footer on No. 10. In addition, Hibbert sank a 25-foot putt on No. 9 for par after hitting out of the woods with her second shot.
Junior Olivia Lugar was the third-best finisher for the Bears on the day with an 80. Lugar fired a one-over 37 on the front nine, but shot a seven-over 46 on the back nine.
Selections for the 2014 NCAA Division III Championship will be announced Monday, May 5, at 5 p.m. The tournament will be held Tuesday-Friday, May 13-16 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
