No. 1 Women’s Golf Grabs Early Lead at IWU Spring Fling

Normal, Ill., April 12, 2014 – The No. 1-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team fired a 319 and holds the lead after the opening round of the 2014 Illinois Wesleyan University Spring Fling held at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.

In a tournament field that features five ranked teams, Washington U. had three of its five starters shoot 80 or lower and have a three-shot lead over second place and host Illinois Wesleyan (322). No. 6 DePauw University (325), No. 20 Gustavus Adolphus (331) and No. 23 University of Wisconsin-Stout (334) round out the top five in the 18-team field.

Illinois Wesleyan's Katie Klosterman fired a two-over 74 Saturday in the opening round and has a four-stroke lead over Krystal Garritson of the University of Saint Francis and Washington U. junior Olivia Lugar, who fired a six-over 78. Lugar played consistent golf throughout her entire round registering 12 pars and six bogeys.

Freshman Xin Fang is tied for fourth after an opening round 79, while senior Andrea Hibbert shot an 80 and is tied for 10th place. Fang had three birdies in the first round, while Hibbert had two.

The final round of the Illinois Wesleyan Spring Fling will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.
