Olivia Lugar Wins Individual Title as Women’s Golf Places Second at Third Annual WUSTL Spring Invitational

Madison, Ill., April 6, 2014 – Junior Olivia Lugar claimed medalist honors to lead the No. 1 ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team to a second place finish at the Third Annual WUSTL Spring Invitational held Saturday-Sunday at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill. The individual title for Lugar was her second of the season and eighth of her career.

Lugar fired a two-day total of 147 (72-75) to claim the individual championship by two shots over Jodie Peacock of William Woods University. Lugar also set the tournament record for the top 36-hole score, breaking the mark of 148 set by Hannah Buck (Washington U., 2012), Kayla Eckelkamp (Maryville, 2012) and Morgan Lamberson (Drury, 2012).

In a tournament field that featured 10 ranked teams, NAIA No. 6 ranked William Woods claimed the team title for the third-straight year with a tournament record score of 605 (306-299). The Owls fired a 299 on day two, the lowest team score in the history of the tournament for 18 holes.

Washington U. had four of its five starters break 80 for the second-straight day, and finished a stroke behind William Woods in the team standings with a two-day total of 606 (300-306). NCAA Division III No. 9 Rhodes College (623, 308-315), No. 21 Carleton College (628, 318-310) and No. 6 DePauw University (628, 314-314) rounded out the top five in the 16-team field.

Lugar was joined on the all-tournament team by Washington U. sophomore Connie Zhou and freshman Xin Fang, Jodie Peacock (William Woods), Geraldin Tellbuscher (Carleton), Paige Gooch (DePauw), Alejandra Ferrer (William Woods), Meg Healy (Rhodes), Mary Reed (Rhodes), Adrienne Plourde (Olivet), Nikki Isaacson (Rhodes) and Jamie Palermo (William Woods).

Washington U. returns to action Saturday-Sunday, April 12-13, at the Illinois Wesleyan Spring Fling held at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
