Women’s Golf Takes Lead at Third Annual WUSTL Spring Invitational

Madison, Ill., April 5, 2014 – The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team shot a tournament-record 300 on the opening day of the Third Annual WUSTL Spring Invitational Saturday at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill.

In a tournament field that has 10 ranked teams, Washington U. had four of its five starters break 80 and has a six-stroke lead over second place and NAIA No. 6 William Woods University (306). NCAA Division III No. 9 Rhodes College (308), No. 6 DePauw University (314) and No. 21 Carleton College (318) round out the top five in the 16-team field.

Washington U. junior Olivia Lugar and Jodie Peacock of William Woods fired an opening round even-par 72 and tied for the top first-round score in tournament history. Sophomore Connie Zhou is two shots back in third place after a two-over 74, while senior Andrea Hibbert (77) and freshman Xin Fang (77) are tied for ninth place.

The final round of the Third Annual Washington U. Spring Invitational will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.
