Washington U. Women’s Golf Finishes Seventh at Saluki Invitational

Carbondale, Ill., March 31, 2014 – Windy conditions led to higher scores on day two as the Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team placed seventh out of 13 teams at the Saluki Invitational held Sunday-Monday, March 30-31, at Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale, Ill.

In a field loaded with 10 NCAA Division I schools, host Southern Illinois University Carbondale led from start to finish on the par 72, 6,017-yard course and finished with a two-day total of 617 (309-308). Indiana State (631, 311-320), Chicago State (638, 320-318), Evansville (643, 325-318), Western Illinois (649, 324-325) and IUPUI (649 (322-327) rounded out the top five.

Evansville's Kayla Katterhenry, who set a new Saluki Invitational first-round record with a 69 (-3), won the individual title by one stroke with a two-day total of 147 (69-78). Sophomore Connie Zhou was the top Washington U. finisher with a 157 (76-81).

Washington University hosts the Third Annual Washington University Spring Invitational Saturday-Sunday, April 5-6, at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill.

The two-day event will include 10 ranked teams – Washington U. (No. 2, DIII), DePauw (No. 5, DIII), William Woods (No. 6, NAIA), Olivet (No. 8, DIII), Rhodes (No. 9, DIII), Rend Lake (No. 11, NJCAA), Carthage (No. 19, DIII), Carleton (No. 20, DIII), Wittenberg (No. 21, DIII) and Wisconsin-Stout (No. 23, DIII).

NOTES: Zhou was tied for first in Par 3 scoring (2.88, -1) while junior Olivia Lugar was tied for third in Par 4 scoring (4.25, +5) … Washington U. was sixth in Par 4 scoring (4.64), eighth in par 3 scoring (3.55) and 10th in Par 5 scoring (5.85).
