Women’s Golf Tied for Fourth After Day One at Saluki Invitational

Carbondale, Ill., March 30, 2014 – In a field loaded with 10 NCAA Division I schools, the No. 2-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team shot a 322 and sits in a tie for fourth place after the opening round at the Saluki Invitational Sunday at the Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale, Ill.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale leads the 14-team field after an opening round 309 on the par 72, 6,017-yard course. Indiana State University (311), Chicago State University (320), Washington U. (322) and IUPUI (322) are in the top five.

University of Evansville's Kayla Katterhenry set a new Saluki Invitational first-round record with a 69 (-3), two shots better than IUPUI's Ana Fernandez de Mesa's 71. Sophomore Connie Zhou fired a 76 (+4) on the opening day and is seven shots off the lead, in a tie for sixth place. Zhou had four birdies on the day and played the par 3s at two-under.

The final round of the Saluki Invitational will be played Monday beginning at 10 a.m.
