No. 2 Women’s Golf Wins George Fox Invitational by One Stroke

Peoria, Ariz., March 15, 2014 – The No. 2-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team edged host and No 14 George Fox University by one stroke to win the George Fox Westbrook Invitational held Friday-Saturday, March 14-15, at Westbrook Village Golf Course in Peoria, Ariz.

Washington U., who held a five-shot lead after day one, fired a two-day score of 622 (304-318) on the par-71, 5,951-yard course. The tournament championship for the Bears was their fourth this season.

George Fox was a stroke back with a 623, while No. 12 University of Redlands (628), No. 18 Gustavus Adolphus College (637), No. 22 Wartburg (645), and Baldwin-Wallace College (663) rounded out the field. Sydney Maluenda of George Fox fired a five-over 147 (76-71) to win the individual championship by two strokes.

Sophomore Connie Zhou (152, fourth place), junior Olivia Lugar (154) and sophomore Erin Lawrence (156) all had top-seven finishes and were named to the All-Tournament Team.
